When you talk to them: -Maintain eye contact (to a natural degree) - don't finish their sentence or fill in their words, just wait for them to finish speaking - saying things like "just take a breath" or "slow down" is NOT helpful - always remember that they know what they want to say. Like many people who stutter they probably struggle with their speech to some degree so be patient If you want to try to talk about their stutter with them, approach it respectfully, something like "I notice that you stutter sometimes, is there anything I can do to help support you? Is there anything you want me to know?" And let them tell you. Just be prepared that they might not want to talk about it. Even if they don't, they'll still probably appreciate that you were compassionate about it. That's great you want to be supportive!
