Benzodiazepines are GABAergic medications, which essentially put the “brakes” on Dopamine, that’s why they work so well for stutterers. Hyperactive dopaminergic baseline is linked to stuttering. Anything that “pulls the reigns” on dopamine, such as benzos or alcohol reduces stuttering.
