Yeah, definitely not all about psychology and not about the sounds, plosives are hard for some people. The good thing about difficult sounds though is that is something you can effectively work to improve in therapy. I don't know if you can give it a true test run, but maybe you can simulate it as realistically as possible. My concern is from my personal philosophy on stuttering, avoiding might work in the short term but makes it harder in the long term. And if you're using, excuse my choice of wording, a shortcut for quick relief, I fear it won't be lasting relief.
