I’m a stutterer. I was a music teacher for 10 years, both privately and in a classroom setting. Primarily percussion. The ensembles I taught won best percussion in the state 9 of the 10 years I was in the classroom, and placed consistently in the top 15 nationally. My private students consistently gave high quality solo performances, often performing quite advanced material. Teaching is about far more than transferring knowledge from one person to another. To be a successful teacher, you must show patience, compassion, and above all, love to your students. In my opinion, either you can teach or you can’t. A stutter has nothing to do with it.
