Proper etiquette when listening! Hey y’all! I’m having a one-on-one meeting with my old professor tomorrow regarding a letter of recommendation, and he has a stutter. I know everyone is different and has their own preferences, but I was wondering if there was a generally preferred way on how to listen, if that makes any sense? When I was his student I sat in the back of a very large class, so I guess this thought never arose before. I know it can be very disrespectful to finish others words/sentences, or to give that stupid advice like “slow down” “relax” as it’s pretty patronizing. I guess what I’m asking, is it better to just keep a straight face when someone is stuttering, an endearing smile, etc? What makes you most comfortable? I apologize if this is a dumb or bad question, truly. He was by far my favorite professor in all of undergrad and I just want to be as respectful as possible. Any other things you would like to share with me, I’m all ears (:
