It hasn't helped, especially when I was younger. The military and just life experience helped me gain assertiveness when needed. I think the keys to assertiveness, at least for me, are keeping your ego/ emotions in check, knowledge, and experience. On that... assertiveness isn't necessarily about yelling and puffing out your chest, it's often about saying what is right.
