While many PWS are taught to take a deep breath, it’s actually harmful to most people who have blocks. The science is that there’s enough air in your lungs to begin talking, and there’s an exchange of air pressure that essentially “adds” more air as you talk. A block is essentially a mini-panic attack, so unless you have advanced training and control over your breath, that inhale will be high and tight, increasing the moment of panic. Instead of a deep breath, try making eye contact and beginning slowly and on an exhale, and see what happens. Here’s a great article by SLP’s with advanced training in dysfluency giving more details. https://stutteringtherapyresources.com/blogs/blog/its-almost-never-breathing?_pos=1&_sid=4026ba585&_ss=r
