My partner disclosed in writing when we were online dating. It took about 2 months of them avoiding speaking to me, certain that the relationship would be over. It's a cute story from my perspective, but was traumatic from theirs I suspect. My partner was certain as fact that I would simply say uh, you're weird, goodbye. They are from a tiny town in a tiny valley in a small country without extensive opportunities for SLPs for youngsters. And the above dismissive scenario had already happened to them in a very brutal way. We talked on the phone, and it was hard at first but not because of the stuttering. It was because of our incompatible forms of English. We worked it out after a few hours of talking over the next weeks. Anyway, it was nearly 18 years ago and we have a rediculously silly relationship that is still going strong (and still struggling with Bs, Ts and other hard consonants). Stuttering/stammering is a thing. But it's not the only thing. Give yourself some grace and assume the object of your affections will, too.
