Wow! Thank you so much for the thorough response! I am guessing the researcher is Dr. Gerald Maguire? I was supposed to be in the third trial phase of Pagoclone…but obviously that did not pan out. I emailed him a while back and he said he was pursuing another “cocktail” of drugs for stuttering. I really admire his spirit and work ethic – just wish he had more funding. Thank you for sharing the researchers currently studying stuttering. I am glad there are some researchers out there who really care about stuttering. I had heard of a few of them, but not all. This is absolutely groundbreaking work for the future, however, selfishly I feel like this research will never benefit me. I know very selfish. But stuttering is something I think about (and hate) every day. I know I should bite the bullet and accept it..advertise…practice my therapy techniques more(dreaded prolongations and easy onsets) …attend NSA meetings for support…but obviously easier said than done. You made a great point when you said knowing the mechanism that underlies stuttering will help us select medications in the future. Great point! It is great speaking with you! You sound so knowledgeable on this subject. I wish I had made more out of my life to be able to contribute to stuttering research. Have you tried any medications? Or, do you solely relying on therapy techniques and acceptance?
