Thanks for responding! I was surprised at how fast our school got to work on this! My daughter was screened last week and I'm supposed to get a response this week on the results. Based on that, I'm also going to get her evaluated privately. Our pediatrician gave us a referral for a speech therapist but I'll also look at our insurance to see if there are any "fluency specialists" as you mentioned. Thank you for that! Quite honestly, if the school doesn't want to pay for therapy, I don't think I'm going to fight it. Her stutter is pretty mild (almost non-existent since I started to look for options for her!) so I'm hoping if I get her some private sessions over the summer it will help her. Apparently, the therapist at school told my daughter to practice not just her R sounds, but S and Z, too. I didn't notice it before but the therapist is right. Why am I not fighting it if the school says my daughter isn't qualified? I really just don't want to take the funding away from a kid who may have a more serious issue than her. She's doing fine socially and academically. I really appreciate your input. If any more questions arise from the eval I'll be sure to ask you! I wish I had recorded her "at her worst". Lately, I've been recording her to see if I can save a sample but it's been so mild that I think they'll come back and tell me she doesn't have a stuttering problem but just needs to slow down on reading or something!
