What if in all cases stuttering is not just due to neurological problems, but could be because of other reasons? Hi there, My intro: I started stuttering at age of 4, and my first case of stuttering was at school during attendance. I couldn't speak "Yes, ma'am" properly. So, my stutter was pretty low, nobody knew I stuttered. Just maybe, 5-7 stuttered words during the whole day. But this was the case till I was 16. After that it keeps on getting worse to the point where I can't even speak up my name every damn time. (a, a, aaaa, aaamorrrro) So, here's what I think: Some studies & we all say that stuttering is due to neurological conditions in our brain, because of which we can't speak properly. Ok, gotcha. But what if it's not all the same in all stutters? For example, it could be because of trauma or special social anxiety or improper way of breathing pattern throughout childhood or the ultimate r/stutter taboo - HABIT? Just the case here - u/khanfushus got his stuttered cured after he got diagnosed for tongue thrust swallow & he had various symptoms like allergy, difficult breathing through nose etc. Then a myofunctional therapist made him do some exercises from which he learned to control his tongue more effectively. His thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stutter/comments/6eg2ix/cured_at_36/ I have the same symptoms as his condition. Can't run for 20 secs straight without stopping to catch breathe & I can't breathe naturally through my nose. I've to manually do it. I can't sing for shit, when I try to say fast words what comes out is gibberish mixture. (Except when I'm alone, I'm 100% fluent - this is 99% stutterers case, I know) So, what do you think? Stuttering is not because of same problems in all. Maybe, some got it through improper brain wiring, in some - nose problems, what about habits or trauma? As far as I know, there was an unethical study done in 20th century on 22 orphan kids, where they made kids believe that they stutter & they actually started stuttering after some time. This study is called 'Monster study' Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Study So, it proves that stuttering is not a neurological problem in most cases. It definitely could be some other reason, which we could find for our own individual case. Edit: As expected, downvotes. Thanks fellas.
